From Darkness to Light..

Eyelids are the thinnest and softest parts of our body. Normally our skin is 2 mm thick, but our eyelids are 0.5 mm thick. Therefore, we need to be more prudent about the care of this area.

Having dark or purplish appearance under the eye area causes the person to look tired, sleepless, old and depressed. Many patients are very disturbed and are affected psychologically by the fact that everyone is constantly asking why they are tired or whether they have substance abuse.

Main factors that determine this condition are: Race, familial transmission, rubbing the eyes frequently from a young age due to allergies (atopic dermatitis), using eye shadow, preparing the ground for foreign body reactions and sleeping with make-up. As well as physical fatigue, loss of elasticity of our cheek tissue with age, displacement and lack of support of the under-eye connective tissue, dark veins becoming visible, dehydration of the under-eye tissue due to excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, osmotic changes due to excessive salt consumption, sinusitis, nasal congestion, drug and cannabinoid-derived substance use, excessive weight, decreased under-eye connective tissue support after delivery, emotional stress.

If the skin color is darkened due to other reasons and it is also exposed to the sun, additional darkening appears due to melanin content in the skin, and this complicates the solution of the problem even more.

As a doctor, among the solutions I offer in terms of medical practice, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser application and a follow-up with a treatment protocol specific to each patient, strengthening the under-eye tissue with hyaluronic acid injection, amino acid, mineral and antioxidant combinations that have illuminating properties in mesotherapy are among my treatments that produce the best results.  In addition, some of my patients benefit from a very superficial peeling with the Er:Yag laser. This can increase the success in suitable patients. As a dermatologist, I recommend the following topical products; These are creams for under the eye area, they contain Vitamin K, Retinoic acid, pure 15% Vitamin C serum, peptides, growth factor and color lightening substance (arbutin etc.).

Although we often encounter resistance in treatment with laser, injection, and topical product combined applications, we can achieve a maximum success rate of 60%.

After listening to the presentations of Dermatologists whom I respect from around the world, I look forward to applying the combinations they have succeeded, as soon as I return from the congress. The fact that more effective laser technologies have been developed and that they are used by us dermatologists gives me great excitement on behalf of humanity.
