Skin Spot (Blemish) Treatment

Melanin is the substance that gives its color to our skin. Skin spots are areas where melanin is concentrated above normal. Abnormally high amounts of melanin accumulate in certain areas and form skin spots due to various reasons. Some of these spots are present from birth. Some of it is due to aging, and some of it is due to the damage done to our skin by the sun.

Treatment Methods

  • How are Skin Spots treated with Q-Switched Laser?

With the technique referred to as Q-Switched Laser, the laser beam transmitted to your skin will only work on the problem area and treat your spots without damaging the surrounding tissues. Freckle and tattoo removal treatments can also be performed with the same technique. Q-Switched Laser treatment delivers reduction in all kinds of skin blemishes. Although the results vary depending on the skin type and the method applied, the spots are removed to a large extent. It also helps rejuvenate your skin by stimulating collagen production. Firmness of the skin increases, pores tighten, a decrease in color and tone differences are observed.

Most pigmented lesions do not come back. Some birthmarks and some stubborn sunspots which are deep located can sometimes return within a few months or a year if sunscreen is not used. The lesion which returns will be a smaller lesion than it was prior to the start of the treatment. If the person neglects to protect herself from the sun even for 15 minutes due to forgetfulness, the stain may try to reappear. However, the process can be re-applied. Generally, the number of sessions that will be needed and the probability of the stain being resistant to treatment will be less.

The areas to be treated with laser spot treatment should not be tanned neither by sunbathing, nor by using tanning lotions. Darker parts of the skin resulting from tanning can also absorb laser beams, resulting in skin irritation or blistering.
