Seborrheic Dermatitis Eczema is a type of eczema that appears on the scalp, face, eyebrows, edges of the nose, cheeks, inner and outer parts of the ear. It appears as yellow oily dandruff-like incrustation and pink-colored red areas. They do not cause any detriment to the patients other than their cosmetic appearance.

This type of eczema is caused by the excessive increase of the fungal microbe called Malaszesia, which lives harmlessly on our skin, and the excessive response of the skin defense system to it.

Dandruff formation in the hair is a mild type of seborrheic eczema and it is observed in 50 % of adults. Not everyone with dandruff has seborrheic dermatitis, but most patients with seborrheic dermatitis also have dandruff.

It is more common in winter. The disorder becomes milder in summer.

Treatment is determined according to the body area where the indications are present. Scalp; With regular use of anti-dandruff shampoos containing zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, the symptoms disappear completely. During the application, the shampoo should be left on the scalp for 5-10 minutes and rinsed afterwards. In patients with thick dandruff, solutions with salicylic acid may be helpful. Around the face, ears, and nose: Anti-fungal creams are recommended to reduce the fungal microbe. In addition, cortisone creams are useful in cases where redness is evident. Cortisone solutions and ear drops are useful for the inner part of the ear. Body: washing the areas such as the body itself, the back, armpits areas with anti-fungal shampoos and rinsing after keeping the shampoo on the area for 5-10 minutes gives good results. With Q-switched Nd:yag and Pico second lasers, the vicious circle on the face can be broken and imflammation can be controlled.
