Highly advanced laser technologies are being developed, especially in the area of skin spot (blemish) treatments. Although these technologies have a huge prohibitive access and diffusion problem due to being expensive, when physicians experience these technologies and share them on training platforms, we start envying the admirable results of the fine workmanship and we are faced with our instincts to direct our investments and training in this direction. For instance, the latest pico laser I purchased can break the resistance of the blemishes of some of my patients, and that makes me feel like a superhero.

The Pico laser (Enlighten) is slightly different from the conventional Q switched lasers. Pico performs everything Q switched can, but some features are a little more advanced. It is often referred to as the best laser for the removal of tattoos without causing any damage. But for us dermatologists, it has much more important features than that.

For instance, the treatment process of acne scars is quite complicated. Acne scars which are slightly raised from the skin and have caused discoloration are resistant to many skin regeneration treatments. Pico lasers can initiate a regeneration process that creates a healing process in very small foci, without causing major damage to the scar. In the beginning one may think it will not be as effective as crustation fractional lasers, but the result is surprising. Only small red dots appear during the healing process, and they can be closed much more easily. The healing results can be better than the fractional laser results. Moreover, it has the features of cleaning black spots which fractional lasers cannot, suppressing oil secretion in the follicle, reducing the thickness of the hairs and improving the factors that cause acne to go into a vicious circle.

I frequently resort to using fillers to remove fine wrinkles and the thinned appearance where the skin becomes wrinkled more easily, now I apply pico laser to my patients before these applications. After a few sessions of applications, I observe that the amount of filler we need and the delicate work we need to perform decreases significantly.

It can stimulate collagen production in the deep layers of the skin. I can say that it is the most innocent and easiest healing process with which I can alter the skins thickness. With this application, called pico genesis, a restructuring process can be created which can successfully repair both the pigments formed due to sun damage and the damaged collagen due to sun at the same time, without any thermal effect on the skin. Until today, I often had to combine separate technologies for these tasks. For example, I would use q-switched laser and micro-Needle radiofrequency therapy, which complement each other. By following the advancing technology, we are becoming better equipped and the results us  dermatologists can achieve are more satisfactory.
